No fewer than four species of fish are being looked at for changes in the law. Along with the new Shark rules that went into effect this past July 1st, these new laws could have major implications for North Florida. They are now looking at Spotted Seatrout as the next fish that might have changes. And that will affect North Florida in a major way.

If you're looking for fast, free, good size, live bait fish for fishing the river, the jetties, or simply trolling the beach for a king mackerel, easy bait can sometimes be a real quandary.

Red Snapper Season 2019 is upon us.

Watching the storm over in the Gulf, it appears we dodged a weather bullet, but we could still get substantial rainfall. We just don't know because the behavior of the storm is kinda’ unpredictable.

Hot, hot and hotter……  it's July.  Slick calm mornings and afternoon thunderstorms.  This month the Sisters creek area should yield great early morning topwater bites for redfish and trout.

We've had a lot of things working against us this summer…  the live bait has been more scarce than in years past and THE WIND has been absolutely brutal for days in a row.  We've been fishing in 3-5 ft seas almost daily.  It has been the most steady and hard wind we've seen in any June that I can remember!

June 1 has come and gone and everybody and their brother has Kingfish fever.  It's just like October 1 when everyone thinks because it's October it's instantly, ''Sheepshead time.''

Welcome to June!  The hot temperatures are here!

And with the lack of rain in May, the salinity levels are very high which seems to be helping our fishery… since we had all the fresh water in our waterways for so long.

Typically, it’s toward the end of May we first begin to see King Mackerel off our northern Florida coast.

It's teeth time. Bluefish [the green scourge fish], Spanish mackerel, ladyfish, jack crevalle & sharks!!!

Where do I start on this fishing report???  This past week we have seen a number of things change and there are quite a few different fish on the menu.

April is turning into a great month for redfish here in Palm Valley.  Large schools of redfish are holding off the main channel of the ICW.  These schools can be found cruising the banks visually or when casting live or artificial baits drifting.

I remember the days when everyone looked forward to 'real spring'.  Not when the calendar said so, but the fish said so.

And spring officially sprung for me on 4.7 because the ''Spanish macs' were thick! 

With the changing water temps and weather being more stable the fishing will get fired up.  Look for  schools of slot reds to bunch in the creeks through-out the month as schools of small pogies and finger mullet start finding their way in.  Target the deep holes at low outgoing and the first of incoming.

With Spring approaching, the ocean is beginning to warm.  As the water warms, the northerly fish migration begins, so in the coming weeks we will begin to see some changes in our fishery.
