May opened up with some outstanding king mackerel fishing. There was plenty of live bait around, and we were getting limits of king mackerel nearly every trip.
Fishing was great during the few weather windows we got. Then Tropical Storm Arthur comes along, picks up the winds and seas, and as soon as it's gone, there's no bait and the king mackerel have vanished.
It's now a waiting game to see when everyone shows up again. Grouper season opened up May 1st and we started it off with a bang on a 12 hour trip with 5 nice scamp grouper.
Cobia have started to show up along wrecks and ledges and there have been a few swimming along with the manta rays along the beach. In addition to the kings, grouper, and the countless red snapper we've been catching, we've also been catching a large number of big sharks, from black tips, bull sharks, sandbar sharks, and even some hammerhead!
We are hoping for some better weather during the last part of May and into June and July so we can out some fish on the dock! Come with us or take yourself, but get on the water whenever you get the chance!
