Kings, Kings, and more Kings!
The big fish of the week is king mackerel.
Pogies have been missing in action for the past several weeks, so we have been having to hog bait offshore with sabiki rigs. We've been catching mainly threadfin herring with a few Spanish sardines and cigar minnows.
Slow trolling live baits around local wrecks and ledges have been producing good numbers with limits on almost every trip. The limit for king mackerel is 2 per person with a minimum fork length of 24 inches.
Blackened, fried, grilled, smoked, are all good ways to prepare kings for the table.
Bottom fishing isn’t very productive inside 40 miles but outside 40, there are good numbers of beeliners, mangrove snapper, amberjack, red porgy, and a few dolphin, mutton snapper and even grouper are possible!
