Once again, the wind has kept us off the ocean for most of the winter, so far. But when we do get out the fishing is great.
Water temps are still mid 60’s and the bottom fish respond well at that temperature.
Black Sea Bass are showing up in better numbers and the Red Snapper are stacked like firewood most anywhere you go.
There’s a few grouper, BUT grouper closed January 1st and won’t reopen until May 1st.
Further offshore, outside 40 miles, the vermilion bite is good with some triggerfish, red porgy, white bone porgy and a few jacks.
Cut bait and squid work for all the fish mentioned. Double chicken rigs with circle hooks are my go-to setup this time of year.
