On January 10, 2019 Governor Ron Desantis of Florida signed Executive Order 19-12 (Achieving More Now For Florida’s Environment). The legislation implements major reforms to ensure the protection of Florida's Environment and water quality.

The Governor's Executive Order includes spending $2.5 Billion over the next 4 years to protect water sources and restore the Everglades. The legislation also calls for the creation of a Blue Algae Task Force to address Blue-Green Algae Blooms.

Executive Order 19-12 has 3 sections

  1. Focus on rapid improvements for water quality, Quantity and Supply.

  2. Restructuring to focus on Accountability, Transparency, and science to achieve more now for Florida’s Environment.

  3. Ensure Florida's valuable and vulnerable coastlines and natural resources are protected. Under Section 2-Appendage C; Take all necessary actions to move the Environmental Crimtes Enforcement Unit from FWC to DEP.

On June 20, 2019 Governor Ron DeSantis signed SB (Senate Bill) 1552 Florida Reel Tide Mitigation and Technology Development lnitiative. The legislation establishes the Florida Red Tide Mitigation and Technology  Development lnitiative as a Partnership between the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's (FWC) Fish and Wildlife Research Institute and Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota, Florida.

The new law will provide $18,000,000.00 over the next 6 years to research Red Tide. The annual appropriation of $3,000,000.00 beginning in the 2019-2020 Fiscal year and through the 2024-2025 Fiscal Year from the General Revenue Fund to FWC for the purpose of Implementing the bill. Just asking the question: What Legislative Action and money will be coming to the North East Florida Region?
