If you are a Florida resident older than 65 (and yes, there are plenty of you!), you won’t need to pick up a license for recreational freshwater or saltwater fishing. You are also exempt if you are a child under 16 years of age (and if you are, you should be commended for doing your research!).
Virtually everyone else in between will need to get licensed before they start reeling in that Marlin, with a few exemptions for the disabled and military personnel, among a selection of other groups. The same general requirements are also in place for recreational hunting licensing.
Tourists should also be sure to familiarize themselves with the state’s fishing regulations before packing for their trip. Head online to Go Outdoors Florida to brush up on the requirements and register for your license before your next trip to the water – and make sure to keep it handy when you get out to the water.
